The statutory basis

Florida maintains its list of qualifying conditions in statute, and the Office of Medical Marijuana Use (OMMU) publishes plain-language patient guidance describing that list. Whether the statute applies to your situation is a clinical determination — made one patient at a time, by a qualified physician, after an evaluation. This page explains the framework; it cannot predict an outcome.

A diagnosis does not guarantee qualification. No diagnosis — including the condition described on this page — means a physician will certify you, and certification never means the state will issue a card. Certification is the physician's clinical decision after an evaluation. The registry identification card is the State of Florida's decision after a separate application.

How certification fits into the Florida process

If a qualified physician certifies you, the certification is entered into the state registry and you may then apply for the state's identification card. The physician determines eligibility; the state controls card issuance.

Two separate systems are involved. First, a qualified physician evaluates you and — only if the physician decides it is appropriate — enters a certification into the Florida Medical Marijuana Use Registry. Second, you complete the state's application and pay the state fee; the state reviews it and issues the registry ID card on its own timeline. Neither step can be promised in advance.

What the evaluation involves

Initial certifications in Florida require an in-person physical examination by a qualified physician. The physician reviews your medical history, your diagnosis, and how it has been managed. Bringing records that document your diagnosis helps the physician assess your situation; the physician will tell you what is useful. Some renewal visits may qualify for telehealth when statutory conditions are met.

The decision to certify belongs to the physician alone. Under the practice's stated policy, if the physician does not certify you, you are not charged for the evaluation.
